Meals

We are very fortunate at The Ferns Primary Academy to have a wonderful catering team in our onsite kitchen. Our school meals are provided by Dolce, an award-winning school catering company that offers a wide variety of nutritious and delicious meal options each week, helping pupils enjoy healthy, balanced lunches every day.

All children in Reception and Years 1 and 2 are offered a free fruit snack each day. Children in Key stage 2 (year 3 and above) may bring a fruit snack from home. We ask you not to provide your child with any other snacks.

All children in reception, Year 1 and 2 are entitled to free school meals under the Government’s Universal scheme.

Children may bring a packed lunch to school, but we ask you to ensure it is packed in a secure, labelled container. For reasons of safety, drinks must to be in unbreakable containers. Children are allowed to bring fruit juice or fruit squash into school for lunchtime, and water is always provided in the lunch hall. Please note fizzy drinks are not allowed. Children drink water during the rest of the school day.

We ask you to ensure you provide your son or daughter with a healthy packed lunch. This means no sweets are permitted in school and we request you avoid chocolate. It is very important that NO NUTS or nut products are brought into school, as we have a number of children with severe allergies. This includes Nutella spread in sandwiches.

If a child forgets to bring in their packed lunch, and it is not possible to contact parents, a school lunch will be supplied for the usual cost of a meal.

To pay online for school dinners, please use the School Grid website using the link here.

Families in receipt of certain benefits may be entitled to free school meals. If you think this may apply to you, please speak to our School Office who will be able to help you further or complete an online application to check for eligibility
